Press Release: Lachlan Watt appointed Brand Advocacy Manager for SMWS Australia

3rd October 2024 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Artisanal Spirits Company is proud to announce that Lachlan Watt has been appointed as Brand Advocacy Manager for The Scotch Malt Whisky Society Australia branch where he will be overseeing the SMWS, JGT, and Single Cask Nation.

Lachlan brings a fervent passion and a trove of knowledge to the company and will be working to bring The Scotch Malt Whisky Society to a wider audience across venues, Partner Bars and through tastings around the country.

For the last eight years, Lachlan has been paving the way in the hospitality industry as Bar Manager of Whisky & Alement in Melbourne (and The Kilburn before that), winning Bar Manager of the Year during the 2023 World Whiskies Awards, and locally in 2024 for the Australian Bartender Awards. Lachlan has proven himself as an advocate of Society spirit and a pillar of wider whisky knowledge.

Anyone who has been served by Lachlan at Whisky & Alement is aware of his charm and pure passion for flavour discovery; we’re excited to have him on board to continue to champion these ideals and bring the Australian branch of the Society into new venues.

I’m very excited to have Lachlan on the team after being such an ambassador for us over the last seven years at a key Partner Bar, and now having him join the team as Brand Advocacy Manager is just fantastic.” — Matt Bailey.

I am thrilled to be joining the team at SMWS after working alongside them for 11 years in various positions and various bars. It’s an excited brand to be working with and I’m excited to see where I can take them in the future.” — Lachlan Watt.

About The Scotch Malt Whisky Society

The SMWS is the world’s leading whisky club. An unconventional club has unconventional beginnings. The SMWS started when our founder Pip Hills stumbled upon the delights of whisky drawn straight from the cask — undiluted and unadulterated. That was in the 1970s, when the whisky industry establishment considered such a spirit too quirky and challenging for delicate palates. Overlooked and unappreciated, such liquid had been left to languish in warehouses across the country, unknown to the wider public.

Pip shared his discovery when those experts said there was no demand for it and watched as word of mouth spread. In 1983 he and his pals formed The Scotch Malt Whisky Society to share whisky in its purest form, and unite those of us with a passion for flavour, for variety, for fun….and for not always doing as we’re told.

In 2024, the SMWS proudly has 42,000+ members around the world across 33 branches, and continues to be the world’s leading whisky club in bottlings, experiences, and the pioneering spirit of Pip’s original vision.
