The ultimate in efficient breakfast briefings: buttered newspapers in a warm baguette, served with blueberry and blackcurrant jam. The palate echoed the nose, with the sweet jammy notes being joined briefly by a tickle of chilli, coconut shavings and chocolate oranges. Water transformed our meal; now served on a cold marble slab, the currants were complemented by raspberries and vanilla ice cream. To finish, we enjoyed madeira cake served with peanuts in lime juice, sweet popcorn and wood spice.
