19.109 Tropical fruit cream cake

Some of the finest spirit character we’ve seen come through the Society, and it’s been too long between releases. Cask 19.109 is not just the return of Distillery 19, but also an unusual sight for it being in that younger age bracket. This really is a bit of a stately affair with that 2nd fill STR PX sherry cask accentuating the tropical fizziness common with this code. With a gentle (for cask strength, at least) and approachable ABV, this is sure to turn heads and delight senses.

Tasting Notes

We noted a confectionery sweetness at first reminding us of foamy bananas, cherry lips and sugar-coated jellies as found in the classic British assortment called dolly mixtures. On the palate, we had a fruity smack of kiwi, guava and peaches (possibly in a bubble tea) served with a raspberry-topped rum baba. With the addition of water, we imagined fluffy watermelon-flavoured candy floss and a glass of prosecco, while the taste, elegant and smooth, delivered tropical cream cake made with passion fruit curd and coconut buttercream. Following 11 years in an ex-bourbon barrel, we transferred this whisky into a second fill STR PX- seasoned barrique.
