DESCRIPTION:That’s right\, for the first time in AMWTC’s 36-year history\, the Whisky Champs will be held in Melbourne City. We’ve teamed up with the Grand Hyatt and will be taking over two distinct spaces for the competition portion and afterparty\, ensuring the 19th of July to be an unforgettable evening for all involved.\nThe Australian Malt Whisky Tasting Championship (AMWTC) is Australia’s longest-running whisky championship\, starting in 1989\, and running to today. It’s a huge night with a tasting competition that will see someone crowned the champ. Huge prizes\, huge night\, and all drinks and food included with every ticket. \nOn the night\, you sit down in front of eight core-range malt whiskies\, we give you the answers plus one red herring\, and then you pick out which one is which within 30 minutes. Easy enough! Then we party into the night with the SMWS single cask bar\, cocktail bar\, and more… \nCan you tell the difference between a Bruichladdich and a Balvenie?  How about between a Springbank and a Starward? If so\, test\, tempt\, and delight your senses at the biggest whisky competition in Australia as the Australian Malt Whisky Tasting Championship is back for a huge\, fun night in 2025. \nUnlike any other competition on earth\, this momentous event will see someone crowned the Australian Malt Whisky Tasting Champion based on their sensory prowess. Building on the Rare Releases of previous years\, the Society has unveiled a series of specially selected and carefully matured casks globally to mark the inaugural Whisky Wanderers Festival. We’re lucky enough to be receiving 14 of them in Australia (including the highly anticipated five-region blended malt Wandering Alchemy). \nJoin SMWS Australia Marketing Manager Adam Ioannidis and local Ambassador Scott Mansfield for a special afternoon tasting through 8x of these incredible Whisky Wanderers casks\, accompanied by snacks and small plates at the dashing and cosy Partner Bar Savile Row. This year\, the SMWS has produced multiple cask-strength expressions to celebrate the Whisky Wanderers festival\, and Australia is receiving 14x of them! All 14 casks will be on pour for this festival hosted in the RACA’s iconic Victoria room. \nTickets include unlimited pours of the 14x new 2025 Whisky Wanderer bottlings\, canapés\, and the option to add on complimentary micro masterclass sessions (hosted in the Pioneers Room). It’s been a year of incredible tastings\, whiskies\, and people\, so won’t you join us in saying farewell to the year with some cracking-good Society drams and plenty of canapés to keep the afternoon going!? \n12pm sharp arrival for a 12:30pm departure from Docklands\, with a scheduled return to land at 4pm. We’ll be running a token system with each ticket entitling you to 7x drams — there will be a total of 12x different SMWS bottlings on offer for you to choose from. Additional drams may be purchased on the day + beer and soft drinks will be complimentary from the onboard bar. DESCRIPTION:Whisky Abbey returns for 2023 — and you can bet The SMWS will be there serving up some brilliant single-cask\, cask-strength drams!\n  \nCasa De Vinos’ Whisky Abbey returns to the Abbotsford Convent for the third year with over 50 exhibitors and 700+ whiskies to choose from over two exciting days! The Scotch Malt Whisky Society will have a stand with a very generous selection of single-cask\, cask-strength malts on pour\, PLUS\, Matt Bailey will be running an in-depth masterclass on wood innovation and the Society’s cask policy on the Saturday. \nFor those of you who are new to Whisky Abbey\, a ticket will give you access to the festival\, and a specially-branded tasting glass for you to keep — all whiskies are available to purchase by the 15ml pour at each stand at attractive prices. The beautiful Abbotsford Convent is also home to some lush lawns where you can enjoy your drams. DESCRIPTION:Celebrating 30 Years of SMWS Japan Branch!\n\n\nIn 2022\, the Australia branch celebrated 20 years of SMWS\, and this year we’re celebrating 40 years globally\, but in between all that\, it’s also the 30th birthday of SMWS Japan this year! Founded in 1993\, SMWS Japan’s 30th birthday is this year\, so we’re hosting a very special one-off birthday celebration tasting. We’ve secured one bottle of each of the three birthday celebratory releases\, and we’re sharing them around with you\, along with some other surprises and goodies on the night. \nThese super rare releases were exclusive to SMWS Japan\, so we’re very lucky to be the only other country on Earth to share these with members. On the night\, we’ll start with a Society highball\, then taste through the SMWS Japan exclusives\, plus other special SMWS casks that complement the lineup\, along with a traditional Japanese supper. Places for this event are strictly limited and are first in best dressed\, this event is available for members only. Come celebrate SMWS Japan on Thursday 26 October\, 7pm start. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen? Thursday 26th of October 2023 — 6:30pm arrival for a 7:00pm start.\nWhere? Upstairs at Whisky & Alement\, 270 Russell St\, Melbourne\, VIC 3000.\n\n\n\n\n\nMembers welcome to bring guests at member rates. No non-member tickets will be available for this event.
