DESCRIPTION:The Whisky Wanderers Festival has arrived on our shores\, making it the perfect time to celebrate together in Perth through the medium of full-flavoured Society whisky!\n  \nThe Scotch Malt Whisky Society has long celebrated the regions\, provenance\, casks\, and flavours of whisky\, and this year\, we invite you to embark on a journey through flavour with our own take on the classic festivals — The Whisky Wanderers. Building on the Rare Releases of previous years\, the Society has unveiled a series of specially selected and carefully matured casks globally to mark the inaugural Whisky Wanderers Festival. We’re lucky enough to be receiving 14 of them in Australia (including the highly anticipated five-region blended malt Wandering Alchemy). \nJoin SMWS Australia National Ambassador\, Lachlan Watt and local Ambassador Xander Stucken for a special evening tasting through 8x of these incredible Whisky Wanderers casks\, accompanied by snacks and small plates at the ever-incredible Terrarium Bar. This is a casual free-roam event (think of it like a mini-festival) where guests will have the opportunity to taste through the whiskies at their own in their own order; it will also be a unique opportunity to try a brand new Society distillery code — Distillery 162! \n  \nWhen? Thursday 12th of June 2025 — 6:00pm arrival for a 6:30pm start.\nWhere? DESCRIPTION:Join us for an intimate omakase dinner as we introduce Distillery 159 and 160 from Japan!\nIn 2008\, Japanese whisky exploded onto the global market (after many years of limited success)\, despite having only 80 years of production behind it. Since then\, we have seen an exponential growth in both distilleries and consumption of Japanese whisky. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society got on the lift early doors\, with the first single cask released in 2002\, cask 116.1 Coconut peapods and tropical hothouses. Since then\, the Society’s releases have expanded to include highly sought-after casks from distilleries 119\, 120\, 124\, 130\, 131 and 132. \nWith the rise of new distilleries since 2008\, the chance to share these exciting new whiskies with the Society has grown. We are delighted to invite you to an intimate dinner at Besuto Omakase\, where we will explore two of the newest Japanese distilleries to join the Scotch Malt Whisky Society — Cask 159.1 and Cask 160.1 — along with a special surprise from the past! Our very own Lachlan Watt\, and Joel Best from Besuto Omakase will take you on a journey through a series of 8x courses\, 4x Japanese whiskies\, and a custom highball on arrival. \nThis event will take place over two sessions (one session per person limit). Since then\, we have seen an exponential growth in both distilleries and consumption of Japanese whisky. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society got on the lift early doors\, with the first single cask released in 2002\, cask 116.1 Coconut peapods and tropical hothouses. Since then\, the Society’s releases have expanded to include highly sought-after casks from distilleries 119\, 120\, 124\, 130\, 131 and 132. \nWith the rise of new distilleries since 2008\, the chance to share these exciting new whiskies with the Society has grown. We are delighted to invite you to an intimate dinner at Besuto Omakase\, where we will explore two of the newest Japanese distilleries to join the Scotch Malt Whisky Society — Cask 159.1 and Cask 160.1 — along with a special surprise from the past! After two years on the road\, we figured it would be fitting for the tour to return back to where it all started: Sydney. Join us for an incredible evening as we undertake a virtual tour of Speyside: We’ll float downstream on the River Spey\, checking out the scenery\, the people\, the villages\, the attractions\, the accommodation\, the activities\, and — of course — the distilleries along the way. \nIn fact\, we’ll taste no less than seven Speyside malts\, with an accompanying light supper\, as we explore the area in detail.
