Now 10 years on\, as we celebrate our 40th anniversary\, we’re inviting our members around the world to come together for our BIGGEST party yet. \n— \nThe Gathering returns to Sydney this September\, but it’s not just the Gathering that’s returning. After an absence of five years\, an old favourite returns: Guess the Whisky!  \nGuess the Whisky was a regular Society event on the Sydney calendar\, held every year or two from 2007 to 2018. So how does it work and what’s on offer? We’ll be presenting and showcasing six of our Gathering whiskies\, but we’ll serve them blind without revealing their order or the cask in question. As the whiskies are presented\, each table forms a team and — with the benefit of multiple choice\, answer sheets\, and our tasting notes to help you — your team attempts to guess each whisky’s key features and characteristics. For example\, you’ll nominate its age and its ABV (both within ranges — don’t worry\, we’re not that precise!)\, its region\, and — for bonus points — the actual cask. \nEach whisky is a new round\, and we’ll unveil whiskies and scores as we go until we reach the end of the night and the winning table (with the highest aggregate score) takes home the prizes and the glory. It’s surprisingly easy\, it’s fun\, it’s informal\, and —best of all — you’ll enjoy some incredible whiskies along the way. DESCRIPTION:Yeehaw! The SMWS has been busy beavering away on some new American releases\, and we’re here to share them around.\nThere’s a lot happening in the US of A. You only have to open the news to know that\, but what you might not know is that American whiskey is changing. The diversity of flavour coming out from the land of the free has been evolving\, and growing\, and The Society has been at the forefront of working with American distilleries in selecting and bottling some of these amazing single casks. \nThis will be the first Australian appearance of some of the newest codes to join The SMWS\, including a new prefix CW for ‘Corn whiskey’. Way more than just Bourbon now\, we’ll be exploring the diversity of style across American whiskey for one night only at W&A with Bourbons\, ryes\, corn whiskies\, and American single malts bottled by The SMWS!
