DESCRIPTION:Over the last 10 years\, we’ve held some serious whisky matching events.  We’ve paired and matched our Society whiskies to chocolate\, beer\, cheese\, coffee\, and – of course – the cooking and dishes of some Australia’s best and most recognised chefs. \nWhisky is made from cereal grain\, and there’s another staple product that shares a common heritage:  Bread!   So what happens when you match single malt whisky with single origin grain bread?   It’s time to find out! \nJoin us for an incredible culinary evening as we match and pair a diverse range of Society whiskies with the exceptional single origin flour breads of Brasserie Bread. Brasserie Bread is arguably Australia’s best artisan baker\, supplying top quality and award-winning breads to the top restaurants\, cafes\, and outlets of Sydney\, Melbourne and Brisbane.   They are one of the few bakers to make bread using only single origin wheat that can be traced back to the source.   (Most commercial flours are milled and blended for consistency).   Their premises at Banksmeadow also runs and holds brilliant baking classes and a sensational café.    We’ll be supplying their bakers with a number of our whiskies (including a grain whisky and a peated whisky) and let them work their magic as they create and pair breads for the perfect match. \nIn addition to enjoying the delicious breads\, a supper will be provided on the night\, and all attendees will also take home a little goodie bag with a special artisan loaf inside to enjoy the next day! \nPlease note the evening is being held at the bakery at Banksmeadow and public transport options are limited.  We’ve pushed the arrival time back by 15 minutes\, but please allow sufficient time for your travels.  Taxi or Uber might be your best bet\, or take the 309 or X09 bus from Central Station. 6.45pm arrival for a 7.15pm start. \nThis event is strictly limited to just 35 people\, so book in quickly to avoid disappointment.   I look forward to breaking bread with you on the night! \nSlainte\, \nAndrew Derbidge\nCellarmaster & NSW Manager \n

Unlike any SMWS whisky dinner before it\, this dinner will be a Scotch Malt Whisky Society “French Affair”\, featuring some of the finest French spirits you’re likely to encounter in a single sitting. \nYou’ll be aware that the Society has been busy bottling single casks of cask-strength Cognac and Armagnac for some time. What you would not have been aware of is that we’ve been carefully stashing aside some bottles of each spectacular release for this very event! Our dinner will feature a five course meal\, with each course specifically matched by the chef to the following exceptional Society spirits: \nC1 – “Nectar Celeste” from Ile de Re; released by the Society in 2016 at a Members’ price of $349 and long since sold out.\nC2.1 – “Exquisitely polished” from Domaine de Chez Guerive\, Petit Champagne; released by the Society in 2017 at a Members’ price of $230.\nC3.1 – “A fragrant ramble” from Domaine du Menis\, Grande Champagne; one of the rarest and oldest single casks of Cognac on earth\, released by the Society in 2018 at a Members’ price of $695.\nC4.1 – “A tantalising tightrope” from Distillery d’Aumagne\, Fins Bois; released by the Society in 2017 at a Members’ price of $270.\nA3.1 – “Gravitas and Sophistication” – a 30yo Armagnac not yet released by the Society in Australia\, with a Members’ price of $395. \nThese five incredible French spirits are rare and special enough\, although the more observant amongst you may also have noticed that they’re all “dot ones” – that is\, the first Society cask bottled from each respective distillery! Wayward Brewing are a craft beer staple of the Sydney brewing scene and we’re proud to collaborate with them for this event exploring five of their fine beers\, one of which isn’t even commercially available yet! \nJoin us at the Royal Automobile Club for an evening that celebrates how barley\, yeast\, and water (and occasionally hops!) can combine to make magic! \nWe’ll be showcasing a line up of Society whiskies\, each one specifically matched and paired to a unique Wayward Brewing beer. Whisky & beer? It’s a Boilermaker!! Just like our whisky dinners or our whisky pairing nights (cheese\, chocolate\, coffee\, bread)\, we’ll explore how the matched beer brings out and highlights the features of the whisky\, and also how the whisky impacts and accentuates the malt and hops of the beer. We’ll explore both light and dark ales and match them with a diverse range of Society whiskies that cover the spectrum of floral\, grassy\, malty\, sweet\, citrus\, smoke\, and peat! DESCRIPTION:The Champs are back for 2018!\nYou’ve possibly seen it in Outturn\, you might have bumped into me talking about it already\, but the rumours are true: the Australian Malt Whisky Tasting Championship is back in 2018 after a massive 2016. \nFor those new to the format\, it’s ridiculously simple: we give you a list of nine whiskies\, you sit down in front of eight whiskies\, and in the space of precisely 30 minutes\, you have to match them up! No SMWS or limited-edition single malts are used\, all the whiskies are commercially available\, and are all malt whiskies (single and/or blended malts). The person who guesses them correctly wins 1st prize\, which will be revealed soon\, and the honour and bragging rights of being the whisky champion of Australia. For reference sake\, last year we sent the winner on an all-expenses paid trip to Japan to visit and stay at our Park Hotel Partner Bar… that’s how big it is…. \nThe Champs have been running in Australia now since 1989 almost every second year like clockwork\, and the SMWS took over the operation of the format back in 2002. A big fun night out\, it’s also a fun way for guests to dress up\, taste whisky\, be given the answer sheet where your task is to work out the correct order\, then party into the night afterwards! \nIn 2016 at Madame Tussauds in Sydney\, thanks to the special support of The Oak Barrel and the SMWS\, some serious prizes were on offer\, the after-party was just as important as the Championship itself\, with special support from William Grant & Sons with their Glenfiddich Bar\, the SMWS Single Cask Bar\, the Sydney Cocktail Club Sensory Bar\, Gage Roads Brewery serving fresh from the tap\, and the Dane Laboyrie Quartet got the crowd dancing! All included in the ticket price. \nThe Prizes on offer for 2018 are:\n1st Prize: A double return airfare to the Vaults in Scotland complete with private bespoke tasting at the Vaults!\n2nd Prize: A Cask Strength Survival Kit comprising of a rare Society bottle AND a hand-signed Balvenie 21 PortWood from David Stewart himself!\n3rd Prize: A huge $750 store credit to The Oak Barrel in Sydney. \nTaste whisky\, win experiences\, and have fun doing it.
