DESCRIPTION:The Viking from Orkney\, the man with Highland Park literally tattooed on his chest\, is presenting ONE special evening with the Society: Tuesday 3rd October in Melbourne. \nHighland Park for me is one of those truly remarkable distilleries that was absolutely a ‘gateway’ single malt in my formative whisky years of discovering great spirit. In 2004\, Michael Jackson\, the whisky writer\, not the self-styled King of Pop\, declared it to be ‘the greatest all-rounder’ among single malts\, a comment that I wholeheartedly agree with. \nAs any members of the SMWS who have been to one of our renowned distillery-focus evenings can attest to\, there’s something truly magical about our distillery-focus nights\, being able to share a dram in a welcoming space with someone directly involved in the day-to-day of the distillery. For our Highland Park focus\, we’d like to invite you to share a few special drams with Martin Markvardsen\, the Senior Brand Ambassador direct from the distillery\, to explore the new core range\, a preview taste of a new special release\, and then two yet-to-be-released casks from this distillery from the Society. As a Melbourne exclusive\, the Society bottlings will be available to order on the night. \nA light supper of cheese and charcuterie will be served at the tasting\, but you are more than welcome to stay after and enjoy the full menu at the venue. For this special event we’ve secured the stunning Archer Room at The Botanical in South Yarra. SUMMARY:Single Malt & Single Origin Sourdough - Sydney
DESCRIPTION:Over the last 10 years\, we’ve held some serious whisky matching events.  We’ve paired and matched our Society whiskies to chocolate\, beer\, cheese\, coffee\, and – of course – the cooking and dishes of some Australia’s best and most recognised chefs. \nWhisky is made from cereal grain\, and there’s another staple product that shares a common heritage:  Bread!   So what happens when you match single malt whisky with single origin grain bread?   It’s time to find out! \nJoin us for an incredible culinary evening as we match and pair a diverse range of Society whiskies with the exceptional single origin flour breads of Brasserie Bread. Brasserie Bread is arguably Australia’s best artisan baker\, supplying top quality and award-winning breads to the top restaurants\, cafes\, and outlets of Sydney\, Melbourne and Brisbane.   They are one of the few bakers to make bread using only single origin wheat that can be traced back to the source.   (Most commercial flours are milled and blended for consistency).   Their premises at Banksmeadow also runs and holds brilliant baking classes and a sensational café.    We’ll be supplying their bakers with a number of our whiskies (including a grain whisky and a peated whisky) and let them work their magic as they create and pair breads for the perfect match. \nIn addition to enjoying the delicious breads\, a supper will be provided on the night\, and all attendees will also take home a little goodie bag with a special artisan loaf inside to enjoy the next day! \nPlease note the evening is being held at the bakery at Banksmeadow and public transport options are limited.  We’ve pushed the arrival time back by 15 minutes\, but please allow sufficient time for your travels.  Taxi or Uber might be your best bet\, or take the 309 or X09 bus from Central Station. 6.45pm arrival for a 7.15pm start. \nThis event is strictly limited to just 35 people\, so book in quickly to avoid disappointment.   I look forward to breaking bread with you on the night! \nSlainte\, \nAndrew Derbidge\nCellarmaster & NSW Manager \n
