SUMMARY:The Whisky Champs Preview ‘Blind Tasting’ at The Captain's Balcony
DESCRIPTION:It is the Australian Malt Whisky Tasting Championship season and as an official Scotch Malt Whisky Society Partner Bar\, The Captain’s Balcony in Sydney is putting on an extra special AMWTC Preview ‘Blind Tasting’.\nHosted by National Director and Brand Ambassador Matt Bailey\, and local Sydney Ambassador\, Matt Wooler\, here is your chance to trial your skills and practice for the 2023 AMWTC. One individual will be crowned the winner and will take home a ticket valued at $249 to the coming AMWTC event on the 24th of June 2023 at the Art Gallery of NSW. \nWhat’s on taste? Well\, that can only be a secret\, but rest assured there will be previously unseen SMWS whiskies in the mix.  \nWhat if I already have purchased a ticket to the 2023 Champs? If you’re lucky enough to win on the night\, then you can gift your free ticket to a friend or partner and share the love*. \nSeating is limited and open to members and non-members. All whiskies and spirits are served with a selection of canapés from the kitchen. Arriving early? The full kitchen menu is open for service prior to and after the event. \nNote: If you are purchasing tickets to be part of a group please ensure these details are made available 24hrs prior to the event as seating is allocated. \nThis is strictly an 18+ event. \n*One person on the evening will win a ticket valued at $249 to the coming Australian Malt Whisky Tasting Championships 2023 by just guessing the right whiskies on the night. SUMMARY:Gathering '25 — Guess the Dram in Sydney
DESCRIPTION:Yes\, it’s back! Our favourite and most popular tasting event is back for 2025. And\, this year\, we’re combining it with our annual Gathering!\nThe SMWS Gathering has always been a time of coming together\, a time to embrace the shared love and passion for good whisky amongst friends new and old. It’s a celebration of everything that makes the SMWS truly unique: the whisky\, stories\, experiences\, and most importantly\, the members! \nSo\, how does our “Guess the Whisky” night work\, and what’s on offer? We’ll be presenting and showcasing five of our latest whiskies — some of the latest Outturn\, and some that have never before been seen or released in Australia! As the whiskies are presented\, each table forms a team and — with the benefit of multiple choice\, answer sheets\, and the tasting notes to help you — your team attempts to guess each whisky’s key features and characteristics. \nFor example\, its age\, its ABV (both within ranges — don’t worry\, we’re not that precise!)\, its Flavour Profile\, its region\, and — for bonus points — the actual cask code! Each whisky is a new round\, and we’ll unveil whiskies and scores as we go until we reach the end of the night and the winning table (with the highest aggregate score) takes home the prizes and the glory. \nIt’s a bit like your local pub trivia night\, only tastier! \nIt’s surprisingly easy\, it’s fun\, it’s informal\, and — best of all — you’ll enjoy some incredible whiskies along the way. And it will also be your best chance to try our Australian-exclusive Gathering cask\, which this year was handpicked by our Marketing Manager\, Adam Ioannidis\, before it’s released online on the 17th. So\, come on down\, and feel free to rope in a friend or two…. \n\nWhen? Thursday the 16th of October\, 6:30pm arrival for a 7pm start.\nWhere?
