SUMMARY:Japanese Distillery Launch: Private Omakase Experience Night 1
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an intimate omakase dinner as we introduce Distillery 159 and 160 from Japan!\nIn 2008\, Japanese whisky exploded onto the global market (after many years of limited success)\, despite having only 80 years of production behind it. Since then\, we have seen an exponential growth in both distilleries and consumption of Japanese whisky. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society got on the lift early doors\, with the first single cask released in 2002\, cask 116.1 Coconut peapods and tropical hothouses. Since then\, the Society’s releases have expanded to include highly sought-after casks from distilleries 119\, 120\, 124\, 130\, 131 and 132. \nWith the rise of new distilleries since 2008\, the chance to share these exciting new whiskies with the Society has grown. We are delighted to invite you to an intimate dinner at Besuto Omakase\, where we will explore two of the newest Japanese distilleries to join the Scotch Malt Whisky Society — Cask 159.1 and Cask 160.1 — along with a special surprise from the past! Our very own Lachlan Watt\, and Joel Best from Besuto Omakase will take you on a journey through a series of 8x courses\, 4x Japanese whiskies\, and a custom highball on arrival. \nThis event will take place over two sessions (one session per person limit). This will also be an opportunity to order Cask 159.1 and Cask 160.1 before they’re released to the public (limited bottlings available for pre-order). \n\nWhen? Wednesday 19th March 2025\nSession 1: 5pm\nSession 2: 8:15pm\nGuests are welcome to arrive early and enjoy drams at the bar prior to or after their booked session. \nWhere? Bar Besuto\, 3 Underwood St\, Sydney NSW 2000.\n  \nThis is a members-only event. Due to the extremely limited availability of seats\, unfortunately it will not be possible to bring guests to these events. One session per member. DESCRIPTION:THE DOT ONES\n\n\n \n\n\nThroughout the history of the world’s most unique whisky club\, the Scotch Malt Whisky Society\, we’ve been pushing the boundary of innovation\, of surprises\, of panel-approved casks of whisky. \n\n\n \n\n\nIn the last 4 years we’ve had a welcome flurry of ‘dot one’ casks representing the first ever release from that distillery for the Society\, and in many cases the first time that distillery has ever released an independent bottling. This is where the SMWS excels: pushing the envelope\, challenging the norm\, and creating incredible first moments in history. \n\n\n \n\n\nThankfully\, we’ve been tucking away a few rarities from the recent history of first releases\, and we’re opening them all on one night only with your national ambassador Matt Bailey.\n\n\n \n\n\nSingle cask\, cask strength\, panel-approved whiskies from Scotland\, Japan\, India\, America\, Taiwan & Sweden. Maximum 33 x guests\, the ISC room at the RAC awaits us on Friday 6 November\, 6:30pm for a 7pm start sharp. Tickets will be made available to members & guests/partners of members of the SMWS first and foremost\, then non-member tickets after one week.\n\n\n \n\n\nTickets for members go on sale this Friday 16 October along with our mid-month offer.
