SUMMARY:SMWS x Starward: Distillery Preview and Tasting Party
DESCRIPTION:The Festive Season is upon us\, the weather is warming up\, and we’ve put together an absolutely unique once-in-a-lifetime tasting to celebrate. \nStarward Whisky Distillery\, whom you might know for their accessible and affordable Starward single malt\, has moved their entire distillery from Essendon Fields to Port Melbourne as they ramp up production and expand as a distillery. As a special treat for SMWS members\, we’ve secured a special preview night to come and see the new distillery\, take in a tour of the facilities\, and taste three Starward expressions (Solera\, Wine Cask\, and a New World Projects limited release). As if that’s not enough\, we’ll also taste three rather old and very rare single casks from the Society ranging from 18 to 38 years of age. It is both welcoming and exciting for Society members and their guests and is part of the Whisky & Alement family. \nGroup tastings\, table service\, an Old & Rare section and the feature SMWS Archive Cabinet which will be regularly pillaged for special events. An exciting move for this long-standing Society Partner Bar! And an intimate space for dramming on single cask\, cask strength pours from the Society. Over time we anticipate this will offer members the widest range of single casks available by the dram in the Southern Hemisphere! \nCome along on Wednesday 15th Feb from 6:30pm for an entirely exclusive members night. This will be a whole-venue takeover to celebrate the new Society space for members\, enjoy 6 x drams\, light food\, and explore the bar afterwards. This distillery tour\, held at 1pm and 3pm\, are exclusive to SMWS members only\, and are only $10. Not only will we tour the distillery twice\, but you’ll also be offered a glass of a special single malt preview\, exclusive to SMWS. After the tour\, come join us at the bar for some Society drams\, ambassador cocktails\, plus more pop-up madness as we takeover the whole venue for three nights! \nSaturday 22 August 1pm and 3pm start\, Archie Rose Distillery\, 85 Dunning Ave\, Rosebery NSW. DESCRIPTION:Following a Covid-19 hiatus\, we are finally back on track to host an incredible whisky experience! Join Andrew Derbidge for what will easily be one of the most focussed\, detailed\, and informative whisky masterclasses ever presented in Australia as we embark on a grand tour of Speyside and the River Spey.  \nWe’ll explore the region in depth\, looking not just at distilleries\, but at the region’s geography\, its history\, its people\, its science\, and its place in the whisky industry.  We’ll also present a wee Speyside travel guide (where to stay\, wine\, and dine!)\, and – of course – we’ll be exploring and tasting five diverse whiskies from five very unique Speyside distilleries that encompass five different Flavour Profiles; four different cask types; and age statement releases comprising a 8yo\, 11yo\, 13yo\, 16yo\, and 31yo.  How’s that for a spread?\nA classic evening in the Royal Automobile Club with our Cellarmaster and NSW State Manager\, Andrew Derbidge. \nFriday 4th September\, 6:30pm welcome dram for 7pm start. Picture it\, thick smoke whirling around the air\, dissipating into the double-brick wall of the beloved New Sydney Hotel; soothing jazz stimulating your aural senses and peated dram in hand\, whilst you embark on a phenomenal journey of taste and smell. \nMark Teague\, a 4th generation Launceston tobacconist\, will be present to guide you through the cigar smoking — a complementary indulgence that will be enjoyed alongside three peated Society whiskies (plus a fourth unpeated)\, each from different regions and varying in their peat levels.
