SUMMARY:A Saturday Sundowner: Challenge the Panel - Brisbane
DESCRIPTION:The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is bringing a twist on that great Queensland tradition of enjoying a few Saturday sundowners. The Society sources casks\, singular and rare\, from distilleries all around the world. These whiskies are carefully selected by our expert panel who name and provide tasting notes unique for each cask. Think of Cask 73.104 “Happy Hobnobbing Moments” or Cask 123.26 “Blossom Falling Onto Sponge Cake”. Fabulous stuff\, but\, sometimes… maybe we could do better … or differently with an Aussie twist. Here’s your chance. It’s time to challenge the panel! \nSo how does it work and what’s on offer? We’ll be presenting and showcasing five of our latest whiskies – some off the latest Outturn\, and some that have never before been seen or released in Australia. As the whiskies are presented\, each table forms a team. Each team gets to have their say on what the cask should be called and what the tasting notes should really be. Bring your nose\, bring your palate and be prepared to be creative. We’ll bring the inspirational drams. Each whisky is a new round\, the best names and tasting notes will score the highest points. At the end of the tasting\, the winning table (with the highest aggregate score) takes home the prizes and the glory. \nIt’s surprisingly easy\, it’s fun\, it’s informal\, and – best of all – you’ll enjoy some incredible whiskies along the way. And\, for those new to the Society or new to the world of whisky\, we’ll cover off a few of the basics – so come along and feel free to bring a friend or two. \nThere will be a light supper and Newstead beers and ales to cleanse the palate. The category never stands still\, and we’ve explored and curated all manner of whisky tasting events in recent years that have involved expo-style tastings\, food pairings\, beer pairings\, dessert pairings\, coffee pairings\, music pairings\, restaurants\, pubs\, breweries\, distilleries\, and even cruises on the water! \nBut what about a good ol’ fashioned tasting event? What if we did things……old school ?\nReturning to Canberra for the first time in six years\, the Society’s Cellarmaster\, Andrew Derbidge\, will present the ultimate old school whisky masterclass in his inimitable style: A presentation of some delicious\, old school whiskies; tales & stories from Scotland; some fun history and education about whisky and the distilleries being explored on the night; and a detailed culinary and visual tour of each whisky as we carefully analyse and assess the spirit. DESCRIPTION:THE DOT ONES\n\n\n \n\n\nThroughout the history of the world’s most unique whisky club\, the Scotch Malt Whisky Society\, we’ve been pushing the boundary of innovation\, of surprises\, of panel-approved casks of whisky. \n\n\n \n\n\nIn the last 4 years we’ve had a welcome flurry of ‘dot one’ casks representing the first ever release from that distillery for the Society\, and in many cases the first time that distillery has ever released an independent bottling. This is where the SMWS excels: pushing the envelope\, challenging the norm\, and creating incredible first moments in history. \n\n\n \n\n\nThankfully\, we’ve been tucking away a few rarities from the recent history of first releases\, and we’re opening them all on one night only with your national ambassador Matt Bailey.\n\n\n \n\n\nSingle cask\, cask strength\, panel-approved whiskies from Scotland\, Japan\, India\, America\, Taiwan & Sweden. Maximum 33 x guests\, the ISC room at the RAC awaits us on Friday 6 November\, 6:30pm for a 7pm start sharp. DESCRIPTION:The ultimate Scottish Whisky Festivals preview\nWhisky lovers in Scotland have to wait an entire year to attend all of the industry’s festivals that are dotted throughout the calendar\, i.e. the Feis Ile Islay Festival\, the Speyside Festival\, the Campbeltown Festival\, the Highlands Festival\, and so on.\n\nFor one special night in Sydney\, we’ll be combining all of those festivals into one evening\, and we’ll be tasting ALL SIX of the Society’s 2022 Festival Casks.
