Meet Lily Arnott – Our Adelaide State Ambassador

Meet Lily Arnott – Our Adelaide State Ambassador

Introducing Lily Arnott — our next Ambassador for South Australia.

We’re proud to announce that Lily Arnott, Bar Manager at NOLA Adelaide and whisky enthusiast, has joined SMWS Australia as your newest South Australia Ambassador. Lily has been working for the last five years in the local hospitality scene and has developed quite the affinity for all things whisky; Lily is stoked to be appointed the next State Ambassador for South Australia, where she will share her knowledge and enthusiasm with members and friends alike. Adam had the chance to catch up with Lily briefly to learn more about her and what members can expect from her events in the coming future.

So, Lily, Tell us a little bit about yourself and your career in hospitality thus far?

I’m five years into my hospitality career and have just about done a bit of everything. I picked up bar work whilst studying history at university and quickly realised I was much happier behind the bar. I’ve dabbled in cocktail competitions and was a 2024 finalist for the Nikka Perfect Serve, as well as World Class top 100. I’ve worked in the East End over five Adelaide Fringe seasons, so it’s fair to say I thrive in chaos!

You’re currently Bar Manager of NOLA, how long have you been working there for and what’s your favourite thing about NOLA?

I’m closing in on three years at NOLA and I really couldn’t be happier. The team has really mastered the art of southern hospitality and the venue just feels like a warm hug. Aside from the extensive whisky collection, I love the broad range of clientele we host, which is constantly changing. I love being able to learn from the whisky buffs but also being able to guide people through the beginning of their whisky journey.

Where does your love of whisky come from?

I really love the heritage and ritualistic nature of whisky making. The way whisky is considered to be the water of life to so many cultures and walks of life is so fascinating to me. The vast range of variations means there truly is a dram for everyone, and I’m just excited to be a part of that journey for people.

What excites you most about working with The Scotch Malt Whisky Society?

I think the unique nature of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottlings is what really appeals to me. It feels like such a privilege when you know there are limited releases and you can get your hands on some. I really admire the relaxed approach the SMWS takes to whisky as well, which I think is extremely important to me, being able to welcome all whisky lovers with no requirements other than loving a good dram.

What can members expect from your hosting style and hospitality?

Personal but casual — like any good doting host. The goal is to always go above and beyond to make everyone feel completely at ease and as if any request is no stress.

Other than shaking tins, what are some of your other hobbies that engage your creative side?

I’m a big lover of all things vintage, and I’m a bit of a collector, so I’m a big thrifter. I’ve been slowly collecting kilts and vintage clothing over the years.

What’s your ideal genre for whisky drinking music?

It’s got to be anything from the 70s or 80s. I’m a sucker for Pink Floyd or Electric Light Orchestra, but anything with a bit of funk behind it has my heart.

What is your most memorable dram?

Would have to be when I visited the SMWS bar in Edinburgh. I had the most fantastic dram, (59.89) ‘tempura toast’, which I still think about to this day.

You can catch Lily at NOLA or hosting one of the many exciting Society events and experiences hosted in Adelaide all year round! Be sure to say hi and join us in making Lily feel welcome at the Society.
