Surprise! Cask 44.179 is a surprise International Women’s Day release we had no idea we were getting — and an 18-year-old Spicy & Sweet further matured in an oloroso hoggy, what a treat! In case you missed it, this is the second year the Society has amassed an all- female tasting panel to assess a series of cask samples, the samples that passed became our International Women’s Day bottlings, which were launched in March in the UK. This is a magical Premium-livery bottling with those highly desired Christmas cake notes with a bit of extra spice (think saffron, chilli flakes, ground pepper). A wonderful 18-year-old sherry- matured Premium Society malt for just $279 — limited bottlings to go around (or grab it in our limited IWD trio bundle)!

Tasting Panel notes

On the nose we found jammy fruits, nuts and candle wax mixed with wet paint and cream. The palate gave us Christmas: cinnamon, oranges, cloves and chocolate, with ground pepper and chilli flakes. Diluted, its nose said summer, wafting warm car seats and sun cream, but still heavy with chocolate and nuts, plus roast venison and the smell of old books. On the palate, Christmas took a back seat while honey and vanilla burst forth with tropical flowers, lime cordial, saffron hints and summer bonfires. This was matured in a bourbon hogshead for 15 years before being transferred to a first fill American oak oloroso hogshead.
