DESCRIPTION:When it comes to whisky dinners and the art of matching food to whisky\, there is only one person to turn to: Franz Scheurer.\nThe guru who defined and wrote the book on food and whisky matching and has been behind Australia’s most legendary whisky dinners for the last 15 years returns to team up with the Society once more. \n“The Maestro Returns” will see Franz work and collaborate with Brent Savage and his chefs from the entire Bentley Group – that’s Bentley Restaurant & Bar\, Cirrus Dining\, Monopole and Yellow – and prepare a five-course menu with each dish brilliantly matched to a unique Society whisky. Franz works on the principle of 1 + 1 = 3\, meaning that the food will add something to the whisky\, and the whisky will add something to the food. It’s the culinary experience of something being greater than the sum of its parts\, and members who’ve enjoyed our Society Whisky Dinners with Franz in the past (e.g. with Tetsuya\, Neil Perry\, Darren Robertson\, Alessandro Pavoni\, etc.) should move quickly – we have space for 25 diners only. \nThis event is 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start. DESCRIPTION:Rewind 330 odd years. The year is 1682. The location? The Vaults in Leith\, Edinburgh\, Scotland.\nIt’s an important turning point for The Vaults\, a point in history in fact\, when The Vaults were established as a prominent wine cellar. It’s a site that exists even as far back as the 13th century! Fast forward to 1983 and a man named Pip Hills started The Scotch Malt Whisky Society in these very vaults. Then look to 2002 when John Rourke and Andre Tammes started the Australian chapter of the SMWS out of their love of single cask whisky. Come 2019\, we’re now taking a moment to celebrate that history with one of the most special experiences we’ve ever hosted. \nTake a trip back in time with the Society in what is our oldest and rarest whisky experience in Australia ever. Our National Ambassador has raided some of the rarest ‘paper label’ casks from the Society’s history\, deep within the dusty cabinets of our founding director’s stash\, and we relish the opportunity to create this one-off evening in Sydney. \nOn the night:\n\nWe’ll have our own private dining room at the award-winning Bentley Restaurant in Sydney\nWe’ll be tasting\, enjoying and vigorously discussing 10 x drams from the Society’s ‘paper label’ vintage era\nWe’ll enjoy a full 4-course dinner in between sets of drams at the remarkable Bentley Restaurant\nEveryone attending will leave with their own commemorative historical menu from the night\nThere will be a full presentation from the SMWS team\n\n\n
