DESCRIPTION:The ultimate Scottish Whisky Festivals preview\nWhisky lovers in Scotland have to wait an entire year to attend all of the industry’s festivals that are dotted throughout the calendar\, i.e. the Feis Ile Islay Festival\, the Speyside Festival\, the Campbeltown Festival\, the Highlands Festival\, and so on.\n\nFor one special night in Sydney\, we’ll be combining all of those festivals into one evening\, and we’ll be tasting ALL SIX of the Society’s 2022 Festival Casks. These casks won’t be landing in the country until later in the year\, so join Cellarmaster Andrew Derbidge on May 13th for a sneak peek at these incredible whiskies that have been specially selected to honour the six Scotch whisky festivals.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGuests will enjoy seven drams — one of each festival cask — with an additional welcome dram on arrival.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen? This is where the SMWS excels: pushing the envelope\, challenging the norm\, and creating incredible first moments in history. \n\n\n \n\n\nThankfully\, we’ve been tucking away a few rarities from the recent history of first releases\, and we’re opening them all on one night only with your national ambassador Matt Bailey.\n\n\n \n\n\nSingle cask\, cask strength\, panel-approved whiskies from Scotland\, Japan\, India\, America\, Taiwan & Sweden. With over two decades of experience at the distillery\, Ian has overseen each part of the production process at Glenfarclas\, having started in the warehouse\, then worked up through mashing\, brewing\, to distilling\, and also as assistant distillery manager before switching to global sales. \nIan will present a wonderful account and virtual tour of the distillery – one of the very last in Scotland to still be privately owned by a family – and will showcase a range of Glenfarclas expressions. We’ll then dovetail these with a number of very special Society bottlings of Glenfarclas\, including a unique SMWS release being flown in especially for this event and which will be a July Outturn pre-release just for the benefit of SMWS members and their guests. We’ll be presenting and showcasing five of our latest whiskies – some off the latest Outturn\, and some that have never before been seen or released in Australia. As the whiskies are presented\, each table forms a team and – with the benefit of multiple choice answer sheets and the tasting notes to help you – your team attempts to guess each whisky’s features and characteristics. EIGHT new Society whiskies being featured\, many of them never before seen in Sydney (and\, in some cases\, never before showcased in Australia).\n3. The first EIGHT members to book in get 8% off the cost of any whisky they purchase on the night.\n4. The first EIGHT members to place an order on the night will receive a free 50ml official sample bottle of SMWS whisky.\n5. The first EIGHT members to submit an order for two bottles on the night will receive two free 50ml official sample bottles of SMWS whiskies. (From two different casks).\n6. $88 for members\, $118 for non-members\n7. Strictly limited to just 88 people.\n8. The format will be our ever-popular “Steps” style tasting. SUMMARY:Winter Whisky Tasting - Sydney
DESCRIPTION:We’ve had so many new and different tasting events this year\, and we’re already more than half way through winter!  So\, whilst the weather is still cold and the drams taste that much better\, we felt we should round off the season with a Winter Whisky Tasting.  With the emphasis on tasting… \nWe’ll be showcasing a deliberate range of whiskies for this event:  Some off the new August Outturn; maybe some sneak peeks of what will appear on the September Outturn; and also a few special whiskies we have in such small quantities that they’re unlikely to ever be featured on an Outturn!  It will be an eclectic\, yet extremely delicious line up.  A more “social” tasting rather than a tutored masterclass\, we’ll simply showcase a great range of Society drams and let the whiskies do the talking.  (Don’t worry – we’ll announce each whisky and share the full story and details about each distillery and the cask).  This is definitely an event to bring your friends to if you’ve always wanted to share the joys of SMWS whisky. \nAs always\, a light supper will be served.  6.30pm (welcome dram) for a 7.00pm start. Situated on the River Lossie right in the heart of the Speyside region in Elgin\, while Glen Moray Distillery might not carry the same superstar status of the big brands that surround it\, there’s no doubting the remarkable spirit character it produces.  Never in the history of Society ’35’ casks have we seen such diversity of character and such exciting depth of catalogue from so many unique casks. \nWe hope you can join us for this intimate and exploratory evening with a special message from the distillery for our members.
