From the team
This is a perfect springtime dram. Name aside, the excellent marriage of zesty cakes, rich spices and chocolate transports you to an afternoon at a Parisian café. 14 years exclusively in 2nd fill ex-bourbon (with a low total cask outturn, mind you) and a natural cask strength of 56.6% — what some consider perfect drinking strength! A banger of a whisky that might normally be overlooked — only 24 bottles to go around for Australian members.
Tasting Panel notes
The shy nose peeped out from behind haystacks, wearing dried flower garlands and smiled upon us with a sunny exposition of banana split, lemon curd, honey cake and French fancies. The palate started out with simple sweetness (puff candy, honey, white chocolate) but opened up to a complex finish of rhubarb, fresh oak, black tea, nutmeg and chilli flakes. The reduced nose continued to tease us with its delicate fragrances – lemon bonbons, fruit salad, apple orchards, nougat, meringue and sweet peas. The palate now had orange marmalade, lemon puffs, apple snow and butterscotch; then crystallised ginger and cinnamon to finish.
