After nearly twenty years with The Scotch Malt Whisky Society in Australia, I will be finishing up at the end of June.
Australia has been a wonderful part of my life, but the time has come for me, hubby and Harry to move back to Scotland — the land of The Vaults, Queen Street, and Bath Street Members’ Rooms, not to mention deep-fried Mars bars, horizontal rain and some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet.
So…I just wanted to say thanks. Over the course of my time here, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know so many of you personally—whether through events, email exchanges, or phone conversations. Your enthusiasm, support, and contribution to our whisky community here has been incredible and long may it continue. And your patience and good humour when all did not go to plan was always appreciated.
You will be very well looked after, as always, by our incredible team here in Australia. A special mention goes to Donelle Hampshire who has shared an office space with me for the last 12 years with unending patience and good humour. In fact, everyone involved in the Australian branch, past and present, has been incredibly supportive, enthusiastic and great fun to work with in that inimitable Aussie way — it’s been a blast. I’ve been very fortunate.
I leave with countless great memories and a deep appreciation for all things SMWS. Wishing you and yours all the very best for the future – and hope to bump into you in the Members’ Rooms in Scotland one day to share a dram…
